PROFESSIONAL INFO
Native Brazilian Portuguese speaker, working more than seven years as a self-employed translator and with a lot of multicultural experience.
Having used English as my primary language for nearly a decade, gotten a bachelor's degree from an English-taught university in Europe and written extensively academically, have allowed me to achieve full proficiency to the point where I can handle both languages equally. I know the nuances of the languages I translate, and that's how I can deliver translations that are not only understandable but relatable and culturally relevant to my clients.

WORK EXPERIENCE
2011-Present
Self-employed Translator
My journey as a translator began as a volunteer for the OSHO International Foundation. At that time, I was very fond of Osho's philosophy and wanted to show my gratitude for all the free material that the foundation was then making available, like books, short texts, and video talks. So, one day, after reading and watching a ton of material, I decided that I could give something in return for all I had been getting, and that's when I volunteered to help the foundation translating Osho's material into Portuguese. I worked with them for about two years, and it is difficult to estimate how much I've done since I did not keep a precise record of everything I translated at the time (although I should have).
In my time with the OSHO Foundation I've worked on a great number of projects including the co-translation of eight different books as well as the subtitle translation for tens of videos which were part of a premium feature of the foundation at dotsub.com.
After my time with the foundation and all the that I had learned from the work I did for them, I figured I could use the translation skills I had acquired to make some extra income, and so I started advertising my services (mainly through Facebook) as a translator. Soon enough I was able to establish a steady stream of translation work that just didn't last longer because I got into university, and that started taking most of my time.
During my studies, I still translated (mainly health and fitness stuff) but it wasn't nearly as often anymore. It wasn't until about the end of my degree program that I started doing it again, and in order to resume my activities as a translator, I took on another job as a volunteer, this time in another foundation called The Society for the New Message translating their material into Portuguese, also in the field of esotericism and spirituality. I helped the Society from the end of 2016 through 2017.
After my work with the Society by the end of 2017, I decided to finally pursue a career as a self-employed translator and take further this talent I've always carried with me but that had never given the deserved attention to before.
